Seafood Fiesta at PC, Marco Polo

Posted by Adeela Badshah on

When you hear the name ‘MarcoPolo’, you think of the voyager and his splendid sea travels that led to great discoveries. It is only apt then that the Marco Polo restaurant in Karachi decides to introduce a Seafood Night Buffet.
The restaurant itself can be found in the Pearl Continental Hotel chain in Pakistan. With ample lighting, plants and walls decorated with paintings, the restaurant has a semi casual feel. The tables are well spaced out and cater to a number of guests during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even though it is mostly known for its Sunday brunch, its seafood night is treasure waiting to be discovered. On this special night though, the entrance of the restaurant is decorated with fish-nets and a fishmonger stand, and creates the feeling of dining by the harbor side.
Every Friday and Saturday, from Feb 17th till March 17th, get prepared to feast your eyes upon a mouth-watering spread of seafood cooked in pretty much every way you can possibly imagine. The buffet menu changes every weekend, while retaining a few favorites.
Amongst the menu favorites are Mussels & Clams, cooked in a delicious buttery sauce and Seafood Thermidor, which is a treat to the taste buds. The creamy sauce is smooth and flows in the mouth while the seafood really brings out the flavor of the dish. The Parmesan Encrusted Sea bass is absolutely delicious. It gently melts in mouth, and the flavors just don’t quit. I really recommend the Fried Fish stuffed with Cheese, which was perfectly cooked, moist and had melted cheese oozing from within.
The menu also hosted two soups; seafoodnoodlesand seafood cream of celery, Shrimp in dill sauce, Salmon cake, Sardine Curry and Seafood Biryani for the desi food lovers and a Prawn Tempura station. Alongside the main course station, there is an entire spread of Fresh Salads and Appetizers, ranging from various kinds of meat and vegetables to hummus in a spoon. This is definitely a treat to the eyes and the tongue.
I would advise not to fill up completely though as last but not the least is the desserts table, which has everything you can think of. From chocolate mousse to éclairs, each bite-sized dessert is delicious as the next.
The experience itself is a fulfilling one. Even though it is mostly self-service, the waiters are polite and clean up the table immediately after you finish. There is a live band playing a variety of old school 80s and 70s ballads, which gives the whole experience an extra touch. For Rs 1795/- including tax, this is definitely a night worth exploring with friends or family for a semi-casual fulfilling experience.
