Lal Qila A Journey Of Flavors - Featured Review By Aurangzeb A Durrani
Karachi has been a witness to unique food styles andplaces. One of such exotic and delicious places to eat is Lal Qila. When you enter Lal Qila the thing that you notice first is its beautiful combination of Old Mughal architecture furnished with all the modern accessories. True to its name the restaurant is built like a mini Qila with various seating options; dim lit and beautifully decorated inner hall, open space around the buffet area to enjoy the delicious aroma of freshly cooked food or on the parapet of the Qila to enjoy an ethereal romantic moment with your special someone. The whole atmosphere is given a lyrical touch with a man dressed in a king’s attire reciting poetry for the costumers.
There are many delicious food choices in the menu forvarious taste buds. For us Chicken Vegetable Cream soup was lite and worked as a starter.
I found Tandoori Fish to be one of my favourite with its mild marinade and the fish itself cooked to perfection. The spices used made the first bite a medley of flavors in my mouth.
The next thing that decorated the platter was Prawn Tempura, it was as a tempura should be; crispy from outside and juicy and succulent from inside.
One thing that didn’t surprised me were Lebanese Kebabs, they were more like any SeekhKabab we eat at any other barbeque place in Karachi.
We also had Fried Quail which was pleasing in taste and I was happy to observe that it was not at all over cooked.
Beef Chilli was a new thing for mebut it turned out to be a delicious experience with tangy taste. It was appropriately spiced and was served with soft and well flavored Egg Fried Rice.
Lal Qila has recently introduced Chicken Tikka Pizza on their menu. In my opinion the dough of the pizza was alright but some improvement is needed in its topping. I suggest a good tomato sauce along with chunks of Chicken Tikka, toasted capsicum and a nice coating of cheese would suffice.
The dessert menu has some unique and mouthwatering choices such as Chocolate Bites, Khajoor Bites, Carrot Candy and Gulab Jamun. My personal favorites are Khajoor Bites and Chocolate Bites.
The people at Lal Qila know how to treat their costumers well and to enhance their costumer relation image they are now giving free toys to visiting children of age 8 and under. We were told that the management is renovating a seating area at the back side of the restaurant. The Manager of Lal Qila also told us that they have started selling Canned-Food with complete menu availability.
The overall experience at Lal Qila was satisfying and pleasant. I left the restaurant with a happy mind, a full stomach and a content smile with fulfilled taste needs.
